Microsoft will release an update for Windows 8.1 that will be available before the BUILD 2014 conference which is scheduled for April.

In the meantime, enthusiasts have the opportunity to experiment a preliminary version of Windows 8.1, containing several changes that improve Windows 8 applications using the keyboard and mouse configurations.

Specifically, Modern UI interface includes a new title bar that allows minimizing or closing applications, namely grouping them side by side on the screen using the cursor.

Start screen contains a new context menu accessible from the right-click command, that includes options to manage the list of applications (Live Tiles) such as Resize and Unpin. For those who do not want to go through the lists of tiles there is a button to access the Search function located in the upper right corner, next to the new Shutdown button.

PC Settings section now includes a link to the old Control Panel, which is used to adjust the advanced options menu missing from optimized menu for touch screen. Displayed by default at system startup, desktop interface contains a modified version of the taskbar with options to display a list of active Windows 8 applications and UI Thumbnail from their interface when positioning the cursor over the selection of the Taskbar.

According to current information, complete version Windows 8.1 Update 1 package will be available during March, as a free update available through Windows Update service.
